TIPS ON HOW TO STRAIGHTEN 4C AFRO KINKY HAIR WITH NO-HEAT AND NO CHEMICALS
Title: Embracing Natural Hair: My Journey to Healthier Locks
Introduction:
Join me on a journey of self-discovery and transformation as I navigate the world of hair care, transitioning from chemically-treated locks to embracing the beauty of my natural afro hair. As I share my experiences, you'll learn about the challenges and triumphs of transitioning to a healthier hair care routine.
The Turning Point:
For many adults with afro hair, myself included, chemical relaxers were once a staple in our beauty regimen. However, a desire for healthier hair led me to make a bold decision – to bid farewell to chemically-treated hair and embrace my natural curls. Thus began my journey to reclaiming my roots and embracing the beauty of 4C hair.
Embracing the Shrinkage:
One of the greatest challenges of natural afro hair, particularly 4C hair, is its tendency to shrink significantly when exposed to moisture. Determined to embrace my natural hair texture, I sought out heat-free straightening options and developed tailored hair care routines to manage shrinkage and nurture my curls.
Discovering Alternatives:
With chemical relaxers out of the picture, I embarked on a quest to explore alternative hair care methods that aligned with my goal of promoting hair health. From protective styles to moisture-retaining techniques, I discovered a wealth of options to support my journey towards healthier locks.
Surviving the Journey:
Transitioning to natural hair care comes with its fair share of challenges, from learning to embrace shrinkage to mastering new hair care routines. Through perseverance and dedication, I've navigated the ups and downs of this transformative journey, emerging stronger and more confident in my natural beauty.
As I continue to embrace my natural hair journey, I invite you to join me in celebrating the beauty of diversity and self-acceptance. Whether you're embarking on your own hair care journey or simply seeking inspiration, remember that true beauty lies in embracing who you are, curls and all. Let's celebrate the uniqueness of our hair textures and embrace the beauty of natural afro hair together.
Night-time Routine
Moisturize with oils and creams, water is optional. I
usually do not spray with water daily since my cream moisturizer is water
based, this will prevent waking up with your hair still damp (Disaster!)
My favourite nighttime products: Jamaican black castor oil,
Argan oil, jojoba oil, Shea moisture leave-in conditioner.
I would usually use my finger or a wide-tooth comb to detangle
which does not take long since my hair is usually already straightened.
I would go ahead and either do a twist out, Bantu knots or thread my hair. As in
the pictures below.
This needs to be quick!
Massage hair with only Oils because water or water-based
products will lead to shrinkage and make hair less manageable. This is important if your time is limited in
the morning.
A little Oil goes a long way.
My favourite morning products: Argan oil and
Jojoba oil because they have a less intensive smell
It is important to apply the oils before loosening up the
twists or thread. You don’t want to ruin your style
I would usually loosen up my twist or thread then style.
I prefer high puffs or tied back styles as they are low
manipulation styles.
High Puff, Low Manipulation style
Weekend Routine
My weekend regimen consists mainly of shampooing, deep-conditioning
or hot oil treatments.
How I do it: I shampoo my hair every Friday night under the
shower with basically any shampoo. I would usually make medium-sized braid-outs
before shampooing, this is to reduce shrinkage, of course
Alternative hair treatment 1: hot oil
treatment. Simply use your favourite oil, warm it up slightly, not too hot.
Apply thoroughly to your hair from root to tip and cover with a plastic bag or
big shower cap if you have one.
2nd alternative hair treatment: Deep
conditioning. Wet your hair with water using your spray bottle., apply your
usual moisturizing deep-conditioner and some extra-virgin-olive oil. Cover your
hair with an airtight plastic bag or shower cap.
Leave the cap on for at least one hour or as long as you
want to, but generally, the longer you leave it on the better.
Wash out with lukewarm water under the shower. Alternate the 1st and 2nd treatment 2 to 3 times a month.
Doing a weekly hair treatment helps to prevent tangles and
hair breakages, leaving your hair soft, silky, and smooth
My favourite weekend products: Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Coconut oil, Argan oil
moisturizing deep conditioning treatment.
After rinsing out the treatment, go ahead and either twist
out or thread hair as usual.
